"In reply to your despatch No. 363 (40933/X)

of the 19th March, on the subject of the N.V. Handelmastschappij. "Transmarina" of ban, corner of Rokin, Aisterden, I have the honour to report that this firm was estab- lished as recently as December 19th last by the present managers, .I. Stadermann and th. Lindner, both Ditoù subjects.

The authorised capital is F. 5,000,000 of which P. 1,100,000 have been duly paid up. The shareholders are the two managers above mentioned, Messrs. W.H. Muller & Co. of Rotterdam, and the Rotterdamsche Bankvereen- iging, whọ have distributed F. 500,000 among their wealthy clients, all Dutch subjects. The company is really the creation of Mr. M.L. Stadermann, the former manager of Diethelm & Co. and Hooglandt & Co., allied firms at Singapore. This gentlenen returned to Holland on leave last year, and has since incorporated this company with a view to capturing the oriental and other markets which he is convinced will refuse to trade with Germans after the war. The object is chiefly the importation of Colonial produce from North and South America and China. The company intend to open offices at Petrograd, New York, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong and Shanghai. To Hong Kong they are sending out Mr. A.W. van der Star, formerly the manager of the export department of the enemy firm of Jebsen & Co., at Hong Kong, since liquidated. Mr. Lindner, the joint-manager, has already left for New York and, ultimately Buenos Aires, where he will establish branches of the company. firm have so far done no business whatsoever,

The and are more or less preparing themselves for trade after the war.

Mr. Graham informs me that he is satisfied that the concern is a technically Dutch one,
